A Collector's Chronicle

Why I Am
Doing This

Welcome To The Jungle

Last updated: 29 Apr 2026

Hello everybody, just a few words first, as many have messaged asking "What's Your End-Game to this website?" It is ultimately a chronicle of my collector's journey, which encompasses all trials, tribulations, revelations and insights that go along with it. This website is here to serve the industry, but also to point out the many flaws that require fixing in order that the industry can survive (at the time of this writing in April 2026, it is not).

To Reveal What A Toxic Community Refuses To

The custom lightsaber community has settled into a stable equilibrium where every participant's rational self-interest aligns with maintaining the status quo. Sellers benefit from suppressed criticism and unchecked power. Group administrators benefit from the illusion of harmony and, often, undisclosed vendor relationships. Yet this equilibrium is a slow death spiral for the industry itself.

It is a textbook example of a market failure driven by information asymmetry — a "market for lemons" where the inability of buyers to verify quality before purchase ultimately drives out honest vendors and shrinks the market entirely.

Solving The Mystery Of Failing High-End Saber Companies

This love of mystery of humans is a potent imagination-blocker standing in saber practitioners' attempt to get out of their own predicament of falling sales and closing businesses. They keep thinking it's a mystery why the market is against them despite overall kidulting industry and Disney saber sales going through the roof. Or they blame a giant candidate: China mass-produced hilts. As illustrated elsewhere on this site, high-end saber practitioners do not compete in the same market. But yes, the quality (though soulless design) of China-made hilts become attractive precisely because of the inadequacies of the high-end market ranging from information asymmetry to scammers to delayed or non-delivery.

It is incomprehensible that high-end lightsabers fail to capture the massive economic tailwind of "kidulting." Adults driving unprecedented growth in toy and collectible markets in the final quarter of 2024 alone accounted for $1.5 billion in toy sales, officially making them the industry's most important demographic. Star Wars toys consistently dominate this market, with total merchandise sales exceeding $1.5 billion in the United States alone.

Yet the custom lightsaber industry — arguably the ultimate high-end Star Wars collectible — remains largely excluded from this broader boom. Its toxic, insular culture actively repels the very demographic currently propping up the global toy industry.

Helping Newbies Cut Through The Noise

Innocent wide-eyed first-timers see the precarious state of the better lightsaber companies, or buy from horrendous saber companies or encounter these individuals, and are probably turned away for life. A lot of misleading biased info exists, filled with hedges and quagmires for anyone new to navigate.

TheExiledJedi helps cut through this noise.

A Visual Library When There Has Heretofore Been None

High-End Lightsabers are an absolute stunning fusion of engineering and art. Yet to find a searchable index of sabersmiths, installers, customizers and see their work for themselves at a time of your choosing is difficult. My collection shown here is a start. Nowhere else is there a detailed organized visual library of this scale. While there are documented or indexed installers and customizers out there, without pictures, it is impossible to verify their work. Most 'references & recommendations' tend to be without pictures, relying purely on word-of-mouth in vendor-controlled Facebook groups.

Most people don't hold enough of a collection to be able to exhibit it and provide genuine comparative analysis.

By April 2026, my collection had grown to over 135 high-end pieces, giving me the unique vantage point to document the reality of this market.

Why Me

I am a first-career attorney and for the last two decades my career revolves around Investing, Building, Rescuing, Fixing commercial enterprises. My key strengths are in organic commercial growth in the professional services segment, which includes market segmentation and penetration, branding and change-management — often to help entrepreneurs unleash their untapped potential.

Saber practitioners navigate haphazardly and are befuddled at every loop and twist, often falling into the classic scaling trap — over-promising, under-delivering, and blaming the community when their one-man operations inevitably collapse.

Craftsmen deploy physical techniques and gadgets. I have at my disposal a fabulous bounty of thinking tools.

Let me help you a little bit with what I write here at www.TheExiledJedi.com. You can't please everybody, and I do not intend to. Read and disagree, laugh at it, and do what you must — but start thinking about these issues.

This site is unaffiliated with any brand, dealer, seller, installer, or maker. I have never sold a lightsaber from my collection, and none are for sale now or in the foreseeable future.

No man (or woman, or the alphabets in between) is an island, so I need help too: I must also talk about and thank my digital team who pushes out all my various projects across different companies. www.TheExiledJedi.com is no different. Their consistent efforts and dedication allows us to build the persistent information database and messaging this community so desperately needs.
